Religion has a significant importance in the lives of people all over the world, and this is particularly true in South Kurdistan with its rich and diverse history and culture. In this region, followers of Yezidism, Christianity and Islam, and coexist in harmony.
YEZIDIS
Lalish is a sacred place in the Duhok, significant to the Yazidi community. It attracts pilgrims from around the world and is renowned for its symbolic significance and cultural heritage.

Melek Taus is a central figure in the Yazidi religion, and referred to as the "Peacock Angel". He refused to bow down to Adam, out of his loyalty to God, and as a result was tested by God, and eventually elevated to become the most powerful among angels.

In Lalish, there is a natural spring known as "Kaniya Sipî," which holds a special significance for the Yazidis. This water is considered sacred, serving as a source of purification and healing.

In the area of Lalish Temple, it is a practice to walk barefoot, not only inside the rooms but also throughout the entire temple grounds. This is an important tradition and cultural norm among the Yazidis.
CHRISTIANITY
There is a statue of St. Charbel in Ankawa because he is a recognized saint within the Catholic Church, and many Christians in Iraq honor him as a holy man. St. Charbel was a Maronite monk from Lebanon who lived in the 18th century and became known for his ascetic lifestyle and spiritual wisdom.

ISLAM
